The president ordered the establishment of an emergency response system led by the prime minister to address potential problems arising from the Middle East crisis during his Southeast Asia trip.
The instruction was issued shortly before the leader’s departure for Singapore and the Philippines, according to the presidential spokesperson.
Officials were also directed to keep the president informed about the government’s response to the Middle East situation and its economic impact, with strict precautions to safeguard Koreans in the region.
The move followed a reported joint U.S.-Israeli strike against Iran that reportedly resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
