A member of a prominent K-pop girl group has made history by becoming the first artist from the genre to win a trophy at Britain's top pop music awards.
The artist secured the International Song of the Year prize at the 46th Brit Awards for the collaborative track "APT." with an American pop star.
On stage, the artist thanked bandmates Jennie, Jisoo and Lisa, and credited her collaborator as a mentor and partner in the achievement. She also thanked the founder and chief producer of her agency.
"APT." is a pre-release single from the artist's first studio album and rose to global prominence after its October 2024 release.
The song blends bright pop harmonies with a catchy refrain inspired by a popular Korean drinking game. It spent 45 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, the longest run for a K-pop track, peaking at number three; it also reached number two on the British Official Singles Chart Top 100 and remained on the chart for more than a year.
In September 2025, the track earned two MTV Video Music Awards trophies, including Song of the Year.
"APT." was nominated for Song of the Year and Record of the Year at the Grammys, among other categories, but did not win any trophies.
Historically, no K-pop act had previously won a Brit Award, although nominations had been received in prior years by groups such as BTS and BLACKPINK, with a Korean DJ also shortlisted in 2024.
At this year's ceremony, the song "Golden" from a Netflix film's soundtrack was nominated for International Song of the Year, with a fictional girl group performing the track but not winning in either category. A special live performance of "Golden" featured Korean American artists and attracted enthusiastic crowd participation.

"APT.," 그녀의 첫 정규 앨범 "rosie"의 프리 릴리스 싱글은 2024년 10월 발매 이후 세계적으로 큰 반향을 일으켰다.

올해 시상식에서 넷플릭스 영화 "KPop Demon Hunters"의 오리지널 사운드트랙에 수록된 곡 "Golden"이 International Song of the Year 후보에 올랐다. 이 영화의 허구의 걸그룹 Huntr/x가 International Group of the Year 부문에 경쟁했으나 두 부문 모두 수상에는 실패했다.
韓계 미국인 아티스트 이재, Audrey Nuna, Rei Ami가 Huntr/x의 보컬로 참여한 곡 "Golden"은 행사에서 특별 라이브 공연으로 선보였고, 무대에 있던 관객들 사이에서 따라 부르는 젊은 팬들의 환호를 이끌었다.
