Heavy snow grounded flights at Jeju International Airport on Sunday, stranding an estimated 11,000 passengers on Korea's southern resort island.
Runway operations were suspended until 11 a.m. due to heavy snow and strong winds.
Of the 461 flights scheduled, 163 inbound and outbound flights were canceled and five aircraft were diverted.
Airport officials deployed snow-removal vehicles to clear runways, but flight operations were expected to remain disrupted even after services resumed as the snowstorm continued.
The airport and the provincial government are ready to provide emergency supplies to stranded passengers. The airport possesses about 2,700 blankets, 1,500 mattresses and 1,000 bottles of water, while the provincial government holds 2,158 blankets and 2,158 mattresses for emergency use.
A heavy snow warning remained in effect for Jeju's mountainous areas, with weather officials saying areas near Mount Halla received 21.5 centimeters of snow over the past 24 hours as of noon.

공항 당국은 제설 차량을 동원해 활주로를 제설했지만 눈보라가 지속돼 서비스 재개 후에도 운항 차질이 이어질 전망이다.
제주도와 공항은 발이 묶인 승객들을 위한 긴급 물자 지원을 준비 중이다. 공항은 담요 2,700개, 매트리스 1,500개, 물병 1,000병을 보유하고 있으며, 제주도청도 긴급 물자로 담요 2,158개와 매트리스 2,158개를 비상용으로 확보하고 있다.
제주 산악 지역에는 강설 경보가 발효됐고, 기상 당국은 한라산 인근에서 지난 24시간 동안 21.5센티미터의 눈이 내렸다고 밝혔다.
