Korea will face Japan in the semifinals after Japan defeated Jordan on penalties. The Korea-Japan match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday at King Abdullah Sports City Hall Stadium, which is 8:30 p.m. Korea time the same day.
This marks Korea's first semifinal appearance in this tournament since they last won the title in 2020, with the team having been eliminated in the quarterfinals in 2022 and 2024. In the other semifinal, Vietnam, coached by Kim Sang-sik, will meet China or Uzbekistan.
Under coach Lee Min-sung, Korea had struggled in the group stage, finishing with a loss to Uzbekistan but advancing to the knockout stage after Lebanon upset Iran. Lee made four changes from the Uzbekistan match, with Baek Gaon, the team's youngest player at 19, making his first start of the tournament.
Key moments included Korea goalkeeper Hong Seong-min denying Jed Drew early on, and Baek opening the scoring in the 21st minute when a long ball from Lee Hyun-yong found him in the box and he volleyed home. Australia were awarded a penalty in the 38th minute, but the decision was overturned by a video review. Jovanovic equalized for Australia in the 51st minute. Shin Min-ha headed home from Kang Seong-jin's corner in the 89th minute to seal the win for Korea.
Coach Lee thanked his players for their perseverance and said the team sought to attack space behind Australia’s defense and press aggressively, adding that they recovered after defensive mistakes and ultimately prevailed from a set piece. Baek Gaon, who turns 20 on Friday, said the team regrouped mentally after conceding the equalizer and felt they had redeemed some earlier poor performances.

한국은 초반에 위기를 넘겼다. 골키퍼 홍성민이 4분에 제드 드류의 장거리 슛을 막았고, 21분에 선제골을 넣었다.
이현용이 박스로 길게 보낸 공을 백가온이 오른발로 마무리해 1-0으로 앞섰다.
38분 호주가 핸드볼로 페널티를 얻었으나 비디오 판독으로 판정이 번복되며 페널티 기회는 무산됐다.
호주는 51분에 요바노비치의 각도 슛으로 동점을 만들었다.
후반 막판 신민하가 강성진의 코너킥을 헤더로 마무리해 89분 결승골로 승부를 결정했다.
감독은 선수들의 인내를 칭찬하며 “공간을 공략하고 미드필더들이 강하게 압박하는 축으로 잘 작동했다. 첫 득점 이후 리드를 지키려 애썼지만 수비에서 실수가 많았다. 막판에 재정비해 세트피스에서 득점했고, 남은 준결승에서도 더 잘하겠다”고 말했다.
금요일에 20살이 되는 백가온은 동점 골을 허용한 뒤 선수들과 함께 정신적으로 빠르게 재정비할 수 있었다고 말했다. “우리가 선제 득점을 다시 만들어낼 수 있을 거라고 생각했다. 우리는 이전 경기의 부진을 보완했다고 느낀다.”
