Unionized bus drivers in Seoul have reached a collective wage deal with management, concluding a two-day strike that caused significant disruptions for commuters, according to officials on Thursday.
The agreement was finalized in a special mediation session held late Wednesday at the Seoul branch of the National Labor Relations Commission, following extensive negotiations, as reported by city government officials.
Bus services in the capital will resume normal operations starting Thursday morning after the unionized drivers launched their first strike in two years on Tuesday when wage discussions failed.
The strike resulted in major inconvenience for commuters, with only 562, or 8 percent, of the city's 7,018 intracity buses operational on Wednesday morning.
In response to the strike, the Seoul city government increased the number of additional subway services during rush hour from 172 on Tuesday to 203 on Wednesday. The peak commuter train service hours were also extended by two hours on Wednesday compared to one hour on Tuesday.
To further manage platform congestion, authorities dispatched empty trains to heavily crowded subway stations during rush hour and increased safety personnel to more than double the usual level at 86 major stations.
The city government mobilized 677 chartered buses on 134 routes across the capital on Tuesday, serving 86,035 passengers. An additional 86 chartered buses were deployed on Wednesday, bringing the total to 763.

파업으로 인해 서울시 정부는 출퇴근 시간대에 추가 지하철 서비스의 수를 화요일 172대에서 수요일 203대로 늘렸다. 또한, 주요 통근 열차 서비스 시간도 화요일보다 수요일 2시간 늘어나게 되었다.
더불어, 당국은 출퇴근 시간대에 혼잡한 지하철역으로 비어 있는 열차를 보내 플랫폼 혼잡을 완화하려 했으며, 86개 주요 역사에서 안전 요원을 보통의 두 배 이상으로 확대했다.
