The sci-fi disaster film "The Great Flood" has maintained its position at No. 1 on Netflix's non-English movies chart for the fourth consecutive week, according to a statement from the streaming service on Wednesday.
Directed by Kim Byung-woo, the Netflix original film achieved 5.2 million views for the week ending January 11, surpassing the Indian courtroom drama "Haq," which recorded 4.5 million views.
The film's success has elevated it to No. 7 on Netflix's all-time top 10 most popular non-English movies, marking it as the only South Korean title on the list.
"The Great Flood," released on December 19, portrays the challenges faced by An-na, a single mother portrayed by Kim Da-mi, who finds herself in the midst of a catastrophic flood that engulfs her apartment complex and threatens the entire planet. The narrative follows her struggle to protect her 6-year-old son amid the chaos.
In related news, Yeon Sang-ho's mystery drama "The Ugly" debuted at No. 5 on the weekly chart, attracting 2 million views in its first week.
Based on Yeon's 2018 graphic novel of the same name, the low-budget film centers on Dong-hwan, played by Park Jeong-min, the only son of a blind seal engraver master, as he seeks to uncover the truth behind his mother's mysterious disappearance four decades prior.
