Park Chan-wook’s latest film “No Other Choice” and the Netflix animated feature “KPop Demon Hunters” received significant nominations at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards, highlighting the growing influence of Korean storytelling and creators in the global film industry.
The nominations, announced on Monday (local time), included Park’s film for Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy and Best Non-English Language Motion Picture. The film follows Man-soo, portrayed by Lee Byung-hun, a family man who faces unemployment and embarks on a quest to secure a new job.
This marks Park's return to the Golden Globes after his previous nomination for “Decision to Leave” in 2023. With three nominations for “No Other Choice,” there is increasing anticipation for Park to win awards this year.
The film gained international recognition after being invited to the main competition at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, the first Korean film to do so in 13 years. This year’s nominations reflect the evolving acknowledgment of Korean actors at the Golden Globes. Notably, “Squid Game” star Oh Young-soo won Best Supporting Actor in 2022, and Steven Yeun won Best Male Actor in a Limited Series in 2024 for “Beef,” marking significant milestones for actors of Korean descent. Lee’s nomination indicates a rising Korean presence in prestigious film recognition.
Additionally, the film “Bugonia,” which is also nominated for Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy, features acting nods for Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, it is an English-language remake of Jang Joon-hwan’s 2003 cult classic “Save the Green Planet!,” demonstrating how Korean narratives continue to influence Hollywood.
