South Korean athletes have made a strong start at the fourth and final International Skating Union (ISU) Short Track World Tour event of the season in Dordrecht, Netherlands, as they aim to secure spots for the upcoming Winter Olympics.
All three South Korean men advanced to the semifinals in the 1,500 meters event. Rim Jong-un finished first in Heat 3, while Shin Dong-min placed second in Heat 1 and Lee Jeong-min came in third in Heat 6.
In the men's 500 meters, both Rim and Hwang Dae-heon successfully progressed through the preliminaries and heats to reach the quarterfinals.
In the women's 1,000 meters, three-time Olympic champion Choi Min-jeong fell to the repechage phase after finishing third in Heat 6. However, she secured first place in the repechage quarterfinals and will compete in the repechage semifinals on Saturday.
Additionally, two other South Korean competitors in the 1,000 meters, Kim Gil-li and Noh Do-hee, advanced to the quarterfinals without the need for repechage.
On the same day, South Korea qualified for the semifinals in the women's 3,000 meters relay, featuring Noh, Seo Whi-min, Lee So-yeon, and Shim Suk-hee, as well as in the mixed 2,000 meters relay, with Noh, Rim, Lee So-yeon, and Lee Jeong-min participating.
Quota places for the nine short track events at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Games will be determined based on the three best results out of four in each distance across the four ISU World Tour competitions. The events include the men's and women's 500 meters, 1,000 meters, and 1,500 meters; the men's 5,000 meters relay; the women's 3,000 meters relay; and the mixed 2,000 meters relay.
For both men and women, there are 32 quota places available in the 500 meters and 1,000 meters, and 36 quota places in the 1,500 meters. The men's and women's relays will provide eight quota places each, while the mixed relay will offer 12 quota places. Each country can earn a maximum of three quota places per individual event and one per relay event, with teams allowed to register three men and three women for individual races, and four men and four women for the relays. Priority for the mixed relay will be given to countries with at least two male and two female skaters already qualified in individual races.
South Korea currently leads the all-time Olympic short track medal table with a total of 26 gold medals and 53 medals overall.

목요일(현지 시간) 도르드레흐트의 옵티스포츠 스포츠몰에서 열린 1,500미터 남자 부문에서 한국 남자 선수 3명이 모두 준결승에 진출했다.
림정훈은 3조에서 1위를 기록했고, 신동민은 1조에서 2위, 이정민은 6조에서 3위를 차지했다.
500미터 부문에서는 림과 황대헌이 예선과 본선을 통과하여 준결승에 진출했다.
여자 1,000미터에서 3회 올림픽 챔피언 최민정은 6조에서 3위를 기록하며 재경기 단계로 떨어졌다.
그녀는 재경기 준결승에서 전체 1위를 차지하며 토요일에 재경기 준결승에 출전할 예정이다.
또 다른 한국 선수 김길리와 노도희는 재경기 없이 준결승에 진출했다.
목요일, 한국은 노, 서휘민, 이소연, 심석희가 출전하는 여자 3,000미터 계주와 노, 림, 이소연, 이정민이 출전하는 혼성 2,000미터 계주에서도 준결승에 진출했다.
2026년 밀라노-코르티나 동계올림픽의 9개 쇼트트랙 종목에 대한 쿼터 배정은 4개의 ISU 월드 투어 대회에서 진행된 각 거리의 4회 중 3회 최고 성적에 따라 이루어질 예정이다.
올림픽에서의 9개 경기는 남자와 여자 500미터, 1,000미터, 1,500미터; 남자 5,000미터 계주; 여자 3,000미터 계주; 혼성 2,000미터 계주가 포함된다.
남녀 각각 500미터와 1,000미터에서 32개의 쿼터 자리가, 1,500미터에서는 36개의 쿼터 자리가 제공된다. 남녀 계주에서는 8개의 쿼터 자리를, 혼성 계주에서는 12개의 쿼터 자리가 마련된다.
각 국가는 개인 이벤트당 최대 3개의 쿼터 자리를, 계주 이벤트당 1개의 쿼터 자리를 얻을 수 있다. 팀은 개인 경기에 남성 3명과 여성 3명, 계주에는 남성 4명과 여성 4명을 등록할 수 있다.
혼성 계주에서는 개별 종목에서 이미 최소 2명의 남성과 2명의 여성이 자격을 갖춘 국가에 우선권이 주어진다.
한국은 올림픽 쇼트트랙 메달 집계에서 26개의 금메달과 총 53개의 메달로 역대 1위를 기록하고 있다.
