Norway has signed a third contract for K9 self-propelled howitzers, while Sweden has finalized a second modular charge system (MCS) agreement, as high-level Danish NATO delegates visit Korea to discuss potential cooperation.

The latest development comes from Norway, where the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA) has secured a contract for 24 additional K9 “VIDAR” systems, bringing Norway's total K9 fleet to 52. NDMA Director General Gro Jaere highlighted the efficient processes and strong cooperation with Hanwha as critical factors for the timely delivery of these systems by 2027.
Similarly, in Sweden, Hanwha Aerospace has signed a framework agreement for MCS valued at approximately $110 million, marking the second supply agreement and indicating a strengthening partnership. The interest in collaboration extends beyond sales, as a high-level Danish delegation recently visited Hanwha’s main production facilities to assess future programs. The delegation, led by a prominent member of the Danish Parliament, underscores the strategic recognition Hanwha is receiving within Europe’s security dialogue.
Experts in the defense industry attribute the growing focus on K-defense, particularly on Hanwha, to the K9’s proven performance in cold-weather conditions, validated through operations in Finland and Estonia, as well as historical contracts with Poland that have established Hanwha as a key supplier to NATO allies.
Analysts note that Hanwha meets critical NATO priorities, including full interoperability, rapid delivery capabilities, and a commitment to local industrial partnerships. A defense industry official remarked that Hanwha Aerospace is positioning itself as a long-term partner that significantly contributes to the security and economic growth of the Nordic region.
