Speed skater Kim Jun-ho has set a new Korean national record in the men's 500 meters.
Kim achieved this milestone while winning the bronze medal at the first International Skating Union (ISU) Speed Skating World Cup of the season, held at the Utah Olympic Oval in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Sunday (local time), with a time of 33.78 seconds.
The previous record of 34.03 seconds was held by Cha Min-kyu, who set it during the ISU Speed Skating World Cup Final in March 2019.
Gold was awarded to Jenning De Boo of the Netherlands, who completed the race in 33.63 seconds, while Yevgeniy Koshkin of Kazakhstan secured the silver with a time of 33.67 seconds, skating alongside Kim.
Kim, the reigning Asian Winter Games bronze medalist in the 500m, recorded the second-fastest split in the opening 100m with a time of 9.49 seconds and finished with a time of 24.20 seconds. Following the finish, he caught an edge and fell, narrowly avoiding a collision with Koshkin.
Additionally, another Korean skater, Lee Na-hyun, earned the bronze medal in the women's 500m on Sunday, achieving a personal-best time of 37.03 seconds. This marked Lee's first individual medal at the World Cup level.
Femke Kok of the Netherlands set a new world record with a time of 36.09 seconds for the gold medal, breaking a 12-year-old record previously held by two-time Olympic champion Lee Sang-hwa of Korea.

네덜란드의 제닝 드 부는 33.63초로 금메달을 획득했으며, 김준호와 함께 스케이팅한 카자흐스탄의 예브게니 코슈킨이 33.67초로 은메달을 따냈다.
500미터 아시아 겨울 게임 동메달리스트인 김준호는 100미터 구간에서 9.49초로 두 번째로 빠른 기록을 기록했으며, 24.20초로 결승선을 통과한 후 크로스라인 직후 턱에 걸려 넘어졌다. 그는 간신히 코슈킨과의 충돌을 피했다.
또 다른 한국 스케이터인 이나현은 일요일 여자 500미터에서 37.03초의 개인 최종 기록으로 동메달을 획득했다. 이는 이나현의 첫 월드컵 개인 메달이다.
네덜란드의 펨케 콕은 36.09초로 금메달을 따내며 12년간 유지된 한국의 두 차례 올림픽 챔피언 이상화의 기록을 깨뜨리며 세계 신기록을 세웠다.
