Rep. Kweon Seong-dong of the main opposition People Power Party appeared before a special counsel team on Thursday for questioning following his arrest earlier in the week.
Kweon arrived at the office of special counsel Min Joong-ki after a court issued a warrant for his arrest on Tuesday. The arrest is linked to allegations that he received 100 million won (approximately $72,200) from Unification Church leader Han Hak-ja in 2022.
During the questioning, Min's team is expected to investigate Kweon's relationship with the church and other allegations regarding the receipt of illegal political funds.
Kweon, who was previously considered a key confidant of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, is accused of receiving funds from a former Unification Church official in January 2022, just ahead of the presidential election held in March.
It is alleged that Kweon was asked to provide support for the church contingent upon Yoon's election as president, in exchange for church member votes and financial assistance. Yoon ultimately secured victory in the election.

민 검찰팀은 권 의원에게 교회와의 관계 및 추가 불법 정치 자금 수수 혐의에 대해 질문할 예정이다.
한때 윤석열 전 대통령의 핵심 측근으로 여겨졌던 권 의원은 2022년 1월 대선이 치러지기 전 통일교 전직 관계자에게 1억 원을 수수한 혐의를 받고 있다.
그는 윤 대통령 당선 시 교회를 지원해 줄 것을 요청받았으며, 이는 교회 회원의 투표와 재정 지원을 대가로 한 것으로 전해졌다. 윤 대통령은 결국 대선에서 승리했다.
