KT has launched SOTA K, a Korean specialized artificial intelligence (AI) model built on GPT-4o, developed in collaboration with a major U.S. tech company.
The new model integrates the Korean language and its social and cultural context by utilizing high-quality Korean-specific datasets and adapting the advanced AI model to fit the Korean context.
According to the head of KT’s Agentic AI Lab, the innovation combines world-class technology with Korean-specific AI specialization. The expertise gained from the partnership with the tech company is expected to enhance KT’s future AI developments.
The launch of SOTA K is anticipated to invigorate the domestic AI ecosystem and foster innovation in both public and private sectors, thereby enhancing Korea's overall AI competitiveness.
SOTA K is founded on four key principles of Korean AI: data sovereignty protection, cultural relevance, a dual-model strategy that allows the choice between proprietary and open models, and reliable and responsible AI.
The model is adept at processing various aspects of the Korean language, including honorifics, dialects, and industry-specific terminology in fields such as law, finance, and history, making it highly applicable for business and industry uses in Korea.
KT has also created its own dataset to establish new benchmarks for Korean AI. In performance metrics, SOTA K has demonstrated superior capabilities over GPT-4o in areas such as Korean language comprehension, reasoning, cultural understanding, and specialized domain knowledge, particularly excelling in subjects requiring advanced knowledge of Korea.
Real-world applications of SOTA K have already shown promising results. Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance reported producing highly accurate policy summaries and customer service scripts using the model. Educational broadcaster EBS has utilized SOTA K to create curriculum questions tailored to various grade levels, improving personalized learning.
Additionally, at Yonsei University Health System, the model effectively translated mixed Korean-English medical data into clear and comprehensible Korean for patients, accommodating local date formats. Korea Electric Power Corp. noted that it provided fast, clear, and concise responses, with potential for significant system integration and expanded usage.
KT plans to initially deploy SOTA K within its own business-to-consumer services to validate both proprietary and collaborative model frameworks before extending services to partner companies.

SOTA K는 데이터 주권 보호, 문화적 적합성, 자체 모델과 협력적 오픈 모델을 선택할 수 있는 이중 트랙 모델 전략, 신뢰할 수 있고 책임 있는 AI라는 한국 AI의 네 가지 핵심 원칙을 구현하고 있습니다.
이 모델은 한국어 경어체와 방언, 법률, 금융, 역사와 같은 분야의 산업 전문 용어까지 자연스럽게 처리할 수 있어 한국의 비즈니스 및 산업 응용에 매우 실용적입니다.
KT는 한국 AI의 새로운 기준을 정의하고 측정하기 위해 자체 데이터셋을 구축했습니다. KT가 자체 데이터셋으로 설정한 성과 기준에서 SOTA K는 한국어 이해, 추론, 문화적 이해 및 전문 분야 지식 등 핵심 영역에서 GPT-4o를 능가했습니다. 특히 역사, 법률 및 언어와 같은 한국에 대한 고급 지식이 필요한 분야에서 탁월함을 보였으며, 공무원 및 귀화 시험의 모의버전에서도 GPT-4o를 초월했습니다.
회사 측은 실생활 응용이 이미 유망한 결과를 보였다고 밝혔습니다. Meritz 화재 해상보험은 SOTA K를 사용해 매우 정확한 정책 요약 보고서와 고객 서비스 스크립트를 보고했습니다. 교육 방송사 EBS는 이 모델을 배포하여 다양한 학년을 위한 커리큘럼 질문을 생성, 개인화된 학습을 향상시켰습니다.
연세대 건강 시스템에서는 모델이 혼합된 한국어-영어 의료 데이터를 명확하고 자연스러운 한국어로 변환하여 환자들이 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 하였으며, 현지에서 사용되는 날짜 형식과 같은 세부 사항도 다루었습니다. 한국전력공사는 빠르고 명확하며 간결한 답변을 보고했으며, 시스템 통합이 잠재적인 사용을 크게 확장할 수 있다고 언급했습니다.
KT는 처음에 SOTA K를 자체 소비자 서비스에 배포하여 독점 모델과 협력 모델 라인업을 검증한 후 파트너 기업에 서비스를 롤아웃할 계획입니다.
