Korean players will have their names written in Hangeul on their uniforms during an upcoming friendly match against Brazil, as announced by the sport's national federation on Friday.
The Korea Football Association (KFA) stated that the special shirts are being produced to commemorate Hangeul Day on October 9. The match will take place at the Seoul World Cup Stadium the following day.
While players' names in FIFA-sanctioned international matches are typically required to be in English, the KFA received special permission from the global governing body for this event and has developed its own Hangeul font.
The KFA is also in discussions with the Brazil Football Confederation to have Brazilian players' names displayed in Hangeul for the match.
"We hope this will be an opportunity to promote the value of Hangeul as our cultural heritage," the KFA stated. "We are pleased to be able to show the beauty of Hangeul to the rest of the world through football."
In addition to the uniform initiative, the KFA will provide special paper tickets as souvenirs for fans and will produce a limited-edition keyboard themed on Hangeul and football.
Starting Saturday, Nike, the official uniform partner for the KFA, will sell 1,000 limited-edition national team shirts featuring the names of five players, including Son Heung-min and Lee Kang-in, in Hangeul.

KFA는 브라질 축구 협회와의 협의를 통해 브라질 선수들의 이름도 한글로 표시할 수 있도록 논의 중이라고 전했다.
KFA는 성명을 통해 "이번 기회를 통해 한글의 가치를 문화 유산으로서 홍보하고자 한다"며 "축구를 통해 한글의 아름다움을 세계에 알릴 수 있어 기쁘다"고 밝혔다.
한글 날 기념 행사 일환으로, KFA는 팬들을 위한 특별 종이 티켓을 기념품으로 제공하고, 한글과 축구를 주제로 한 한정판 키보드를 제작할 예정이다.
토요일부터 KFA의 공식 유니폼 파트너인 Nike는 한글로 표시된 손흥민과 이강인 등 5명의 이름이 담긴 국가대표팀 유니폼 1,000개 한정판을 판매할 예정이다.
