The Navy has committed to taking measures to prevent a recurrence of an oil leak following a significant fuel spill during a naval operation over the weekend.
On Sunday morning, approximately 8,400 liters of diesel fuel were accidentally released into the sea near the southern port city of Jinhae, located about 310 kilometers southeast of Seoul. The spill occurred during a fueling operation involving a 2,500-ton warship, as reported by the Navy and the Coast Guard.
Containment efforts, which were a collaborative response between the Navy and the Coast Guard, were completed by around 7:30 p.m. on the same day. The Navy has stated that it will thoroughly investigate the cause of the incident and implement necessary legal measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

해군과 해양경찰에 따르면, 8,400리터의 경유가 서울에서 남동쪽으로 약 310킬로미터 떨어진 진해 해안에서 일요일 아침에 2,500톤급 군함의 연료 보급 작업 중에 유출되었다.
해군과 해양경찰이 공동으로 수행한 차단 작업은 일요일 저녁 7시 30분경에 종료되었다.
해군은 사고 원인을 철저히 규명하고 유사사고를 방지하기 위한 법적 조치를 취할 것이라고 밝혔다.
