A Korean infielder has been optioned to the minor leagues after a brief MLB appearance without recording a plate appearance.
The team announced the demotion to Triple-A El Paso the day after the player made his MLB debut as a pinch runner against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Mexico City series. The appearance saw him enter as a defensive replacement for a catcher and not bat in the game.
The player was added to the MLB roster as the extra, 27th player for international games, prior to the opening game in Mexico City.
The player signed a four-year contract in December 2025 and began the 2026 season on the injured list with an oblique strain, spending several weeks rehabbing in the minors.
In recent minor-league action, the player had six hits in his last three games and posted a .293/.369/.320 slash line with 12 RBIs across 20 Triple-A games, though he had no home runs or stolen bases.
The demotion leaves two Korean MLB players active, both former teammates in the KBO: Lee Jung-hoo and Kim Hye-seong, who play for the Giants and Dodgers respectively.
