Hong Kong indie quartet Wellsaid is set to perform in Korea with tour stops in Busan and Seoul this weekend, marking their debut appearances in the country.
The band’s frontman, Rocky Sum, described the upcoming shows as something they have anticipated for a long time.
Sum noted that the group discovered local acts such as Mountains while curating an Asian music mixtape and has looked forward to engaging with South Korea’s DIY scene, which he says is vibrant and full of surprises.
Wellsaid has been active in Hong Kong’s independent scene since 2017 and has long aimed to perform abroad. The band has connected with like-minded acts across Asia, including Taiwan’s VOOID, Singapore’s Forests and China’s Chinese Football, expanding their regional collaborations and DIY network.
Last year, the group undertook a multi-stop European tour, reflecting its international reach. The band collaborates with Taiwanese manga artist Ding Pao Yen for its album visuals, with Sum saying the artist consistently captures the mood of their music.

The band aims to keep expanding its musical range, delivering live performances described as raw and sincere, with a focus on intimate, high-energy sets that blend indie rock and emo elements. Sum emphasized that Wellsaid’s music is best experienced live.
Wellsaid’s material has shifted from Midwest emo influences to heavier, more atmospheric sounds influenced by bands such as Pile, Fugazi, and Japanese acts Eastern Youth and Number Girl. The 2024 release “Regretopia” reflects this diversity, balancing signature tracks with more experimental works.
Sum credited the band’s longevity to strong friendship, ongoing collaboration, and a continuous desire to explore new musical ideas. The group also hinted at releasing a 7-inch in May and potentially recording a new full-length album in the fall.
Wellsaid will perform in Busan on March 6 and in Seoul on March 7, with local openers and companion acts. Updates will be shared on the band’s social media channels.

밴드는 2017년 이후 홍콩의 독립 음악 씬에서 활발히 활동해 왔으며, 음악적 방향은 더 어둡고 무거운 소리를 지향하는 경향으로 변화해 왔다. 옛날에는 Midwest emo 밴드의 영향이 강했으나, 현재는 Pile, Fugazi, 일본의 Eastern Youth 및 Number Girl 등의 영향을 받으며 다양한 사운드를 시도하고 있다. 2024년 발매한 앨범 ‘Regretopia’는 COVID 이후의 혼란스러운 시기를 거치며 더 다양하고 실험적인 요소를 담았다고 Sum은 설명했다.
그의 말에 따르면 이 앨범은 지금까지 중 가장 다양한 음악적 색채를 담고 있으며, ‘Halloween Heist’와 같은 밴드의 대표 스타일과 ‘Like Water in Water’, ‘Attention Economist’ 같은 실험적 트랙을 균형 있게 배치하고 있다. 밴드의 꾸준한 생존력은 멤버 간 강한 유대감과 서로의 삶에 관여하고 지지하려는 의지에서 비롯된다고 Sum은 덧붙였다.
또한 새로운 음악에 대한 지속적인 열정도 중요한 요소로 지적되었다. 음악을 함께 구성하고 새로운 요소를 사운드에 도입하는 데 항상 신선함을 느낀다고 밝혔다. 올해도 7인치 싱글 발매를 5월에 계획하고, 가을쯤 다음 정규 음반을 녹음하고자 하는 등 신작 발표에 대한 기대를 전했다.
밴드는 공연에서 생동감 있고 친밀한 무대를 통해 강렬한 에너지를 전달하는 것으로 알려져 있다. Sum은 라이브 공연이 밴드의 음악을 가장 잘 전달하는 방식이라고 말하며, 무대에서의 특별한 순간으로 예전에 한 친구가 마이크 대신 이펙트 페달을 건드리던 에피소드나, 최근 앨범의 수록곡 ‘Eien’을 관객이 함께 따라 부르는 장면을 꼽았다.
