A French court has ordered Achraf Hakimi to stand trial on charges of raping a young woman, according to his lawyer and prosecutors. The accusation dates to February 2023, when the woman, then 24, reported the incident in Val-de-Marne, southeast of Paris. Hakimi, 27, has denied the allegations.
Hakimi stated on social media that a trial is expected to reveal the truth and asserted his calm readiness to face the proceedings.
His lawyer argued that the case rests on the accuser’s statements alone, noting she obstructed investigations, declined medical and DNA examinations, refused to allow a mobile phone review, and did not provide a key witness name. Prosecutors confirmed that a trial has been ordered.
PSG’s coach referenced the matter as being under judicial review when questioned ahead of a Champions League play-off match. The plaintiff’s attorney expressed relief that the case will proceed to court, while indicating broader concerns about the handling of sexual assault cases in men’s football and the influence of movements like #MeToo.
