Three-time European Tour winner Wang Jeung-hun narrowly missed securing a spot in LIV Golf for the upcoming season.
Wang finished in a four-way tie for fourth place at the LIV Golf Promotions, the annual qualifying tournament for the breakaway tour, with a score of three-under at Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Florida, on Sunday. Only the top three players were awarded full-season spots for the 2026 season.
The only South Korean among eight competitors to reach the final round, Wang was tied for sixth place after Saturday. In the final round, he recorded six birdies but also made four bogeys, finishing with a score of two-under 68.
Wang, who won three titles on the European Tour (now known as the DP World Tour) between 2016 and 2017, along with others in the top 10, earned full exemption into the International Series of the Asian Tour for 2026.
The top two players in the International Series points rankings will gain promotion to LIV Golf for the following season.
Richard T. Lee, who was born in Toronto to Korean parents, won the qualifying event with a score of 11-under, while Bjorn Hellgren of Sweden finished second at six-under.
Korean American Anthony Kim, a former PGA Tour player whose career faced challenges due to off-field issues, secured the third and final spot at five-under. Now 40 years old, Kim has participated in LIV Golf as a wild card for the past two seasons and will continue on the tour for the third consecutive year.
Jang Yu-bin, the first South Korean to compete in LIV Golf in 2025, did not participate in the qualifying event after losing his tour card. He announced in December that he will rejoin the South Korean tour and compete in some Asian Tour events.

유럽 투어에서 3회 우승한 왕정훈이 다가오는 LIV 골프 시즌에 합류하는 데 아쉽게 실패했다.
왕은 1월 8일(현지 시간) 블랙 다이아몬드 랜치에서 열린 LIV 골프 프로모션 대회에서 3타 언더파로 4위로 마감했다. 상위 3명의 선수만이 2026시즌의 풀시즌 자격을 부여받았다.
최종 라운드에 진출한 8명의 한국 선수 중 유일하게 살아남은 왕은 토요일까지 6위로 경기를 마쳤으며, 최종 라운드에서 6개의 버디와 4개의 보기를 기록하며 2언더 68타를 기록했다.
왕은 2016년과 2017년 사이에 유럽 투어(현재 DP 월드 투어)에서 3개의 타이틀을 차지했으며, 상위 10위 이내에 이름을 올린 다른 선수들은 2026년 국제 시리즈 아시안 투어에 대한 전면 면제를 획득했다.
국제 시리즈 포인트 순위에서 상위 2명의 선수는 다음 시즌 LIV 골프로 승격된다.
토론토에서 한국인 부모에게 태어난 리처드 T. 리가 11언더로 예선전을 우승했으며, 스웨덴의 비욘 헬그렌이 6언더로 단독 2위를 차지했다.
전 PGA 투어 스타였던 한국계 미국인 앤서니 김은 5언더로 마지막 티켓을 확보했다. 현재 40세의 김은 12년간의 프로 골프 휴식 후 LIV 골프에서 와일드 카드로 2시즌을 보냈으며, 이번이 사우디 아라비아 지원 투어에서의 3번째 시즌이다.
2025년에 LIV 골프에서 첫 한국 선수가 된 장유빈은 투어 카드를 잃은 뒤 자격 심사에 참가하지 않았다. 그는 12월 한국 투어에 재가입한다고 발표하며 아시안 투어 이벤트에도 참가할 예정이다.
