The romance drama "Once We Were Us" topped the weekend box office, breaking the three-week winning streak of the Hollywood blockbuster "Avatar: Fire and Ash," according to data from the Korean Film Council released on Monday.
The film, which premiered on December 31, attracted more than 340,000 moviegoers from Friday to Sunday, bringing its total admissions to 1.04 million. In comparison, "Avatar" drew over 316,000 admissions during the same period, with cumulative ticket sales reaching 6.07 million.
Directed by Kim Do-young, who received acclaim for her feature debut "Kim Ji-young, Born 1982," the Korean adaptation follows a young couple, Eun-ho (Koo) and Jung-won (Moon), as they reflect on their relationship and missed opportunities in their 20s.

구교환과 문가영이 출연하는 "한때 우리였던"은 2018년 중국 히트 영화 "너와 나"의 한국 리메이크로, 원작에는 징보란과 저우둥위가 출연했다.
김도영 감독의 첫 장편 영화 "82년생 김지영"으로 찬사를 받은 그녀는, 이 한국 각색에서 젊은 커플 은호(구교환)와 정원(문가영)이 20대의 관계와 놓친 기회를 회상하는 이야기를 담고 있다.
