Harold Rogers, interim chief executive officer (CEO) of Coupang Corp., has been summoned by police for questioning as part of an investigation into alleged wrongdoings by the company, including a significant data leak.
Sources indicate that a special task force at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, which was established earlier this month, is in the process of scheduling an appearance date for Rogers.
This summons is reportedly connected to the controversy surrounding Coupang's internal investigation following the data breach incident. On December 25, Coupang revealed that a suspect had stolen personal information from 33 million users, although only the data of 3,000 individuals was retained. The science ministry criticized the findings as one-sided and incomplete.
The task force has initiated a comprehensive investigation into various allegations against the e-commerce giant, including claims of covering up an industrial accident and deleting website access logs.
On December 31, the National Assembly's Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee decided to file a complaint against seven Coupang officials, including Rogers, for purportedly violating the act on testimony and appraisal before parliament.
Additionally, on Tuesday, labor and civic groups lodged a separate complaint with police against Coupang founder Kim Bom-suk and Rogers, alleging evidence tampering and violations of the Industrial Safety and Health Act, among other charges.

특별 태스크포스는 쿠팡의 산업 재해 은폐 의혹 및 웹사이트 접근 로그 삭제 등 여러 의혹에 대한 광범위한 조사를 개시했다.
12월 31일, 국회 과학기술정보방송통신위원회는 해롤드 로저스를 포함한 쿠팡 관계자 7명에 대해 국회에서의 증언 및 평가 관련 법률 위반 혐의로 고소하기로 결정했다.
또한, 화요일 노동 및 시민단체는 쿠팡 창립자 김범석과 로저스에 대해 증거 조작 및 산업 안전 보건법 위반 혐의로 경찰에 별도의 고소장을 제출했다.
