The 2025 MBC Entertainment Awards concluded on a subdued note as veteran host Yoo Jae-suk received the ceremony’s top honor, highlighting a year of controversy within the broadcaster’s variety programming.
Yoo was awarded the grand prize during the year-end ceremony held at MBC’s Media Center in Sangam-dong, western Seoul. This recognition marks his ninth grand prize at MBC and the 21st of his career.
In his acceptance speech, Yoo reflected on his journey, stating, “I received my first grand prize in 2005, and this one in 2025. No one knows what the future holds, but if it’s possible, I will keep doing my best and aim for 30.” He expressed gratitude to his fellow cast members and staff of “Hangout With Yoo,” including HaHa and Joo Woo-jae, while also acknowledging former cast members Park Jin-joo, Lee Mi-joo, and Lee Yi-kyung, who recently departed the program.
Yoo’s reference to Lee Yi-kyung drew attention due to ongoing controversy surrounding the actor's exit from “Hangout With Yoo.” Lee stepped down last month amid allegations related to his private life, claiming that the production team had suggested his removal. Speculation of tension between Yoo and Lee arose when Lee omitted Yoo’s name during an acceptance speech at a separate awards ceremony in Taiwan.
The atmosphere at this year’s MBC Entertainment Awards mirrored broader turmoil within the network’s entertainment division. Regular panelists Park Na-rae and SHINee’s Key suspended their broadcast activities following the “injection auntie” scandal, leading to a change in the hosting lineup from three to two hosts, Jun Hyun-moo and Jang Do-yeon.
After receiving the Entertainer of the Year award, Jun expressed mixed emotions, stating, “This is the first time I’ve come to the awards with such a heavy heart.” He acknowledged that “I Live Alone” had historically received strong viewer support but had not met expectations this year, bowing in apology and pledging a renewal project for 2026.
Television personality Kian84, who also received the same award, shared a similar sentiment, carefully choosing his words to express appreciation for the show's writers and producers during a challenging year. “Thank you so much for giving me such a meaningful award. I’m not even sure how to put this into words,” he remarked. “I know 2025 hasn’t been an easy year for anyone, and just getting through it took a lot of effort for all of us.”

그는 “이렇게 의미 있는 상을 주셔서 정말 감사합니다. 어떻게 말을 해야 할지 모르겠다”며 “2025년이 누구에게도 쉽지 않은 해였다는 것을 알고 있으며, 그저 이를 극복하는 것도 매우 힘든 일이었다”고 말했다.
