Samsung Electronics announced on Tuesday a partnership with Italy's utility firm Enel to provide free electricity to customers who purchase its washing machines in Italy.
Under the agreement, customers will receive up to 180 kilowatt-hours of free electricity for washing over the next two years, starting from Tuesday (Europe time). This amount is said to be equivalent to the electricity needed to operate a Samsung A-rated washer in Europe for approximately two years.
To access this benefit, customers must purchase a Samsung washer and link it to SmartThings, Samsung's artificial intelligence-based connectivity platform.
This initiative follows similar energy-saving programs previously launched by Samsung Electronics in Britain, the Netherlands, and the United States.
In Britain, the company recently collaborated with British Gas to introduce the Samsung Weekend Saver Fix tariff, which offers discounted electricity during daytime weekends for buyers of Samsung products.
In the Netherlands, Samsung initiated free-electricity programs in June with local utility firm Coolblue, allowing customers to lower their electricity expenses.
In the United States, Samsung partnered with Leap Energy last year to introduce the Samsung Flex Connect program, which enables users to save energy automatically and earn rewards by connecting smart devices through the SmartThings app. This program is currently available in California, New York, and Texas.

이번 협력은 영국, 네덜란드, 미국에서 삼성전자가 출시한 유사한 에너지 절약 패키지에 이어 이루어졌다.
영국에서는 지난달 영국 최대 가스 공급업체인 British Gas와 제휴하여, 삼성 제품 구매자에게 주말 낮시간에 절반 가격으로 전기를 제공하는 Samsung Weekend Saver Fix 요금을 출시했다.
네덜란드에서는 삼성전자가 현지 유틸리티 회사인 Coolblue와 협력하여 6월부터 무료 전기 프로그램을 시작, 고객들이 전기 요금을 줄일 수 있도록 했다.
미국에서는 지난해 Leap Energy와 협력하여 SmartThings 앱을 통해 스마트 장치를 연결함으로써 자동으로 에너지를 절약하고 삼성 리워드를 받을 수 있는 Samsung Flex Connect 프로그램을 출시했다. 이 프로그램은 현재 캘리포니아, 뉴욕, 텍사스에서 이용 가능하다.
