Vice Defense Minister Lee Doo-hee met with his Kazakhstani counterpart on Wednesday to discuss ways to expand bilateral cooperation in defense and the arms industry, officials reported.
Lee held talks with Kairat Sadykov, Kazakhstan’s deputy minister of defense, on the sidelines of the Seoul International Aerospace & Defense Exhibition 2025, which is taking place from October 17 to 24, according to the defense ministry.
During the discussions, Lee emphasized Kazakhstan's position as Korea's largest trading partner in Central Asia, highlighting active collaboration in developing the automotive and mineral resource sectors.
Lee expressed hope that the two nations will establish friendly relations and enhance cooperation in the defense and arms industries, noting the presence of approximately 120,000 ethnic Koreans in the region.
Sadykov conveyed his hope that the two countries would broaden their cooperation across various sectors, building on the mutual understanding and trust developed over the years.
국방부에 따르면, 이두희 국방부 차관은 수요일 카자흐스탄의 부국방관과 만나 방위 및 군수 산업에서의 양자 협력 확대 방안을 논의했다.
이 차관은 10월 17일부터 24일까지 열리는 서울 국제항공우주 및 방위 전시회에서 카자흐스탄의 카이랏 사디코프 부국방관과 면담을 했다.
이 자리에서 이 차관은 카자흐스탄이 한국의 중앙아시아 최대 무역 파트너라는 점을 강조하며, 자동차 및 광물 자원 개발에서의 적극적인 협력이 한국과 카자흐스탄 간의 관계에 기여하고 있다고 말했다.
그는 또 12만 명의 한국계 주민이 거주하는 이 지역에서 두 나라가 우호 관계를 구축하고 방위 및 군수 산업에서의 협력을 심화할 수 있기를 바란다고 밝혔다.
사디코프 부국방관은 양국 간의 상호 이해와 신뢰를 바탕으로 다양한 분야에서 협력이 더욱 확대되기를 희망한다고 전했다.
