Yang Hak-seon, the first Korean gymnast to win an Olympic gold medal, has announced his retirement at the age of 32.
Yang made his final competitive appearance at the National Sports Festival in Busan on Saturday, where he secured a bronze medal in the men's vault with his family in attendance.
At the age of 19, Yang won the men's vault gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics, marking a historic achievement for Korea. He also claimed world titles in 2011 and 2013.
He is known for his namesake vault, a triple-twisting handspring front somersault, which is regarded as one of the most difficult maneuvers in gymnastics.
In the latter part of his career, Yang faced challenges with injuries, including hamstring issues and an Achilles' tendon injury.
"I'd like to thank all the fans and people in the gymnastics community who've supported me over the years," Yang stated. "My career may have ended but I will continue to work hard for the development of gymnastics in Korea."

그는 19세의 나이에 2012 런던 올림픽에서 남자 마루 운동 금메달을 따며 한국에 첫 올림픽 금메달을 안겼다. 또한 2011년과 2013년 세계선수권 대회에서도 우승을 차지했다.
양학선의 트리플 트위스트 핸즈프링 프론트 섬버설트는 이 종목에서 가장 어려운 동작 중 하나로 인정받고 있다.
그는 경력 후반부에 햄스트링 문제와 아킬레스건 부상으로 어려움을 겪었다.
"그동안 저를 지원해주신 팬들과 체조계의 모든 분들께 감사드린다"고 양은 말했다. "제 경력은 끝났지만 한국 체조의 발전을 위해 계속 노력할 것이다."
