Kakao Entertainment has announced a lineup of fall projects featuring its management label actors, highlighting a group of leading actresses often referred to as Korea’s “queens.”
Kim Go-eun stars in the Netflix series “You and Everything Else,” which was released on September 12 and has already entered the Top 10 across 14 countries, including Korea, according to FlixPatrol. In the series, Kim portrays Eun-jung, whose candid charm contrasts with her complex, decades-long friendship with Sang-yeon, played by Park Ji-hyun. The narrative follows their relationship through various life stages, from the 1990s to the 2020s, showcasing evolving fashion and emotional depth.
Additionally, Kim is set to appear later this year in Netflix's “The Price of Confession,” where she will take on the role of a mysterious figure known as a “witch” among prison inmates due to her psychological insight.
Suzy will engage global audiences starting October 3 with the Netflix series “Genie, Make a Wish,” a fantasy romantic comedy about a genie awakened after a thousand years who encounters Ga-young, a woman lacking emotions. Suzy is also featured in the film “Seven O’Clock Breakfast Club for the Brokenhearted,” based on a novel about individuals coping with loss through the exchange of “souvenirs of heartbreak.” In this project, she plays Sa-gang, a flight attendant dealing with a breakup, which has been officially invited to the competition section of the 30th Busan International Film Festival.
Han Hyo-joo will return on October 16 in the Korean-Japanese Netflix series “Romantics Anonymous,” co-starring Shun Oguri. She plays Lee Hana, a talented chocolatier with social anxiety, in a romantic comedy centered on two individuals brought together by chocolate.
IU, who recently starred in the Netflix hit “When Life Gives You Tangerines,” will next lead MBC’s “21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife” (working title), set in an alternate Korea governed by a constitutional monarchy. In this series, she portrays Seong Hee-joo, the ambitious daughter of a wealthy family.
Park Bo-young, who impressed audiences earlier this year with a dual role in tvN’s “Our Unwritten Seoul,” will headline the Disney+ original series “Gold Land,” scheduled for release next year. The drama follows airport security officer Hee-joo, who becomes embroiled in a violent struggle after discovering gold bars linked to a smuggling ring, exploring her transformation as she confronts themes of greed and betrayal.
With five of Korea’s most celebrated actresses returning across various platforms and genres, Kakao Entertainment is positioning itself at the forefront of this fall and next year’s drama landscape.
