The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) hosted a seminar on Thursday aimed at assisting Korean firms planning to invest in the United States, focusing on local site selection for investment.
In collaboration with global real estate firm CBRE's Korea Desk North America (KDNA), AMCHAM organized the U.S. Site Selection Seminar 2025 in Seoul, bringing in experts to share valuable insights with participants. This event marked CBRE’s first large-scale seminar in the region, offering Korean companies practical strategies for successful expansion into the U.S. market.
AMCHAM Korea Chairman emphasized the importance of site selection for long-term success, stating that it involves more than just acquiring land. He noted that it encompasses securing the right incentives, skilled talent, efficient logistics, and strong local partnerships. The chairman highlighted a significant increase in Korean investments in the U.S., making Korea the largest foreign investor in America and a key contributor to job creation.
With new commitments in sectors such as semiconductors, electric vehicles, batteries, clean energy, and shipbuilding, AMCHAM expressed pride in supporting Korean companies during this critical phase of their U.S. expansion.
Steven Chon, executive vice president and co-lead of CBRE KDNA, remarked on the established global presence of Korean businesses in North America over the decades. He explained that KDNA was created to assist Korean companies in navigating cultural differences and the complexities of U.S. real estate.
Jay Biggs, deputy senior commercial officer at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, also participated in the seminar, acknowledging Korean companies as global leaders in innovation. He noted that their investments in the U.S. enhance local communities and industrial capacity, driven by both large conglomerates and small to medium-sized enterprises.
During the seminar, senior executives from CBRE provided key insights into site selection. Eric Stavriotis discussed strategies for aligning real estate decisions with long-term competitiveness, while Christopher Schastok elaborated on how location incentives can help offset costs and foster a favorable business environment for Korean investors.
The discussions highlighted the interconnectedness of site selection with incentives, workforce, supply chain, and project management. AMCHAM reported that attendees explored immediate cost efficiency strategies and insights crucial for establishing a foundation for sustainable, long-term growth.

AMCHAM 한국 회장 제임스 킴은 “한국 기업들이 미국에 대한 투자를 가속화함에 따라 지역 선정은 장기적인 성공을 위해 가장 중요한 요소 중 하나가 되었다”고 말했다. “이는 단순히 토지를 확보하는 것 이상으로, 올바른 인센티브, 숙련된 인재, 효율적인 물류 및 강력한 지역 파트너십이 필요하다”고 덧붙였다.
이와 함께 그는 최근 한국의 미국 투자 증가가 한국을 가장 큰 외국 투자국으로 만들었고, 미국 내 일자리 창출에 주요 기여자라고 말했다.
킴 회장은 “반도체, 전기차, 배터리, 청정 에너지 및 조선업에 대한 새로운 투자 commitments로 인해 우리는 한국 기업들이 미국 확장 여정의 중요한 단계에서 지원하게 되어 자랑스럽다”고 밝혔다.
CBRE KDNA의 수석 부사장 스티븐 촌은 한국 기업들이 수십 년 동안 북미 전역에서 여러 산업에 걸쳐 강력한 글로벌 입지를 구축해왔다고 언급했다. 그는 CBRE가 KDNA를 설립한 이유는 한국 기업들이 문화적 차이와 미국 부동산의 복잡성을 극복하는 데 필요한 전문 지식과 연결할 수 있도록 하기 위함이라고 설명했다.

서울 주재 미국 대사관의 제이 빅스 부상업관은 세미나에 참석해 “한국 기업들은 혁신의 글로벌 리더로 인식받고 있으며, 미국에 투자함으로써 그 혁신을 미국 지역 사회로 직접 가져오고, 미국 산업 용량을 확장하며 경쟁력을 강화하고 있다”고 밝혔다. “이러한 모멘텀은 대기업뿐만 아니라 미국 내에서 지속적인 상업적 파트너십을 구축하고 있는 중소기업에 의해서도 추진되고 있다”고 덧붙였다.
세미나에서 CBRE의 고위 경영진들은 지역 선정에 대한 주요 인사이트를 강조했다. CBRE의 임대/위치 인센티브 실무 부회장 에릭 스태브리오티스는 지역 선정 전략과 부동산 결정이 장기적 경쟁력에 부합하는 것의 중요성에 대해 설명했다.
CBRE 자문 및 거래 서비스 실무 부사장 크리스토퍼 샤스토크는 위치 인센티브가 비용을 상쇄하고 한국 투자자들에게 더욱 유리한 비즈니스 환경을 조성하는 방법에 대해 상세히 설명했다.
세미나 동안의 논의는 지역 선정이 인센티브, 인력, 공급망 및 프로젝트 관리와 깊은 연관이 있음을 강조했다. AMCHAM은 참석자들이 즉각적인 비용 효율성을 위한 전략과 지속 가능한 장기 성장을 위한 기반을 구축하는 데 중요한 인사이트를 논의했다고 전했다.
