A woman in her 20s and a male accomplice in his 40s have been arrested for allegedly blackmailing the captain of the South Korea national football team and Tottenham Hotspur forward by falsely claiming she was pregnant with his child.
Authorities from the Seoul Gangnam Police Station announced the detainment of the woman, identified only as A, on charges of blackmail, while the man, referred to as B, is suspected of attempted blackmail. Investigators conducted searches of their residences and have filed for arrest warrants for both individuals.
Reports indicate that A had previously been in a relationship with the footballer. In June of the previous year, she allegedly sent him an ultrasound image, asserting that she was pregnant. However, the timing of A's claimed pregnancy reportedly contradicts statements from Son's representatives.
Police are currently assessing the evidence submitted by A and suspect that some materials may have been fabricated. It is alleged that A extorted 300 million won (approximately $219,000) from Son by threatening to disclose the supposed pregnancy.
