A woman in her 20s and a man in his 40s have been apprehended for blackmailing the captain of South Korea's national football team and Tottenham Hotspur F.C. forward Son Heung-min, by falsely claiming she was pregnant with his child.
According to the Seoul Gangnam Police Station, the woman, referred to as "A," was detained on charges of blackmail, while the man, identified as "B," was taken in on suspicion of attempted blackmail. Investigators conducted searches of their residences and filed for arrest warrants for both suspects on Thursday night.
Reports indicate that Son had previously been in a relationship with the woman. In June of last year, she allegedly sent him an ultrasound image, claiming she was pregnant. However, the timeline of the alleged pregnancy conflicts with information provided by Son's representatives, according to sources.
The police are currently reviewing the materials submitted by the woman and believe there is a significant possibility that they were fabricated. It has been reported that the woman extorted 300 million won (approximately $219,000) from Son, threatening to publicize the alleged pregnancy.
