Industry minister called on private sector cooperation to stabilize industrial supply chains and manage energy demand amid ongoing turmoil in the Middle East, according to his office.
In a meeting with major business associations, the minister urged companies to secure alternative supply sources and avoid disruptive practices such as collusion and hoarding, as reported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources.
The gathering was attended by senior officials from six business groups, including the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Middle Market Enterprises of Korea.
The minister urged voluntary participation by private companies in a five-day vehicle rotation system and other energy-saving measures.
The government had previously begun implementing the mandatory five-day vehicle rotation system for the public sector as part of efforts to address crude oil supply disruptions linked to the Middle East crisis.
He warned of preparations for all possible scenarios that could escalate into a major crisis, calling for active private sector involvement in energy-saving and supply chain management efforts.
The minister pledged “all-out” efforts to prevent production disruptions across major industries and to maintain the supply of medical and everyday goods amid potential shortages of industrial materials such as naphtha, which the government began restricting exports of earlier in the day.
산업통상자원부 장관은 금요일 민간 부문 협력을 통해 대외 중동 사태의 여파로 지속되는 상황 속에서 산업 공급망의 안정화와 에너지 수요 관리에 협조를 촉구했다고 부처가 밝혔다. 주요 기업 협회들과의 회의에서 김 장관은 대체 공급처 확보 노력을 강화하고 담합 및 물가 인상 등 시장 교란 행위를 자제해 달라고 당부했다고 산업통상자원부가 전했다. 회의에는 한국상공회의소를 비롯한 중견기업 단체를 포함한 여섯 개 협회의 고위 관계자들이 참석했다. 김 장관은 또한 자발적으로 다섯일제 차량 운용 제도와 기타 에너지 절약 조치에 참여해 달라고 요청했다. 정부는 이번 주 초부터 중동 사태로 인한 원유 공급 차질에 대응하기 위한 노력의 일환으로 공공 부문에 대한 다섯일제 차량 운용 제도를 의무화하기 시작했다. “상황의 중대성은 전시 체제에 비길 만큼 크며, 더 큰 위기로 확산될 수 있는 모든 시나리오에 대비해야 한다”고 말하며 민간 부문의 에너지 절약과 공급망 관리에 적극적으로 참여해 달라고 요청했다. 장관은 나프타와 같은 산업 원자재의 잠재적 공급 부족으로 주요 산업의 생산 차질 및 의약품과 일상 소비재의 공급 차질을 방지하기 위한 전면적 노력을 약속했다. 정부는 석유화학 및 기타 산업에서 널리 사용되는 핵심 원료인 나프타의 수출 규제를 이날 초에 시작했다.
