Samsung Electronics Co. announced plans to invest over 110 trillion won ($73.3 billion) this year in research and development and facilities for artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors, aiming to maintain a leadership position in a competitive market.
The investment, disclosed in a regulatory filing, represents a 21.7 percent increase from last year’s 90.4 trillion won and marks the largest annual outlay in the company’s history, as well as the first time annual spending has surpassed 100 trillion won.
The plan includes pursuing meaningful mergers and acquisitions in areas such as robotics, medical technology, automotive electronics and air conditioning solutions.
With rising chip demand, the company is implementing efficiency improvements at its P4 plant in the Pyeongtaek campus and proceeding with equipment installation for the planned P5 production line.
Additionally, the company is expanding manufacturing facilities in its chip cluster in Yongin, south of Seoul.
In the United States, Samsung is constructing a new foundry in Taylor, Texas, with operations anticipated to begin by year-end.

세계 최대 메모리 반도체 제조업체는 규제 공시를 통해 이 계획을 밝히며 AI 호황 속에서 선도적 위치를 확보하려 한다고 밝혔다.
이번 투자는 작년 90조4천억 원에서 21.7% 증가한 것으로, 회사 역사상 최대 연간 지출 규모이며 연간 투자 규모가 처음으로 100조 원을 넘겼다.
회사 측은 로봇기술, 의료기술, 자동차 전자 및 에어컨 솔루션 등 분야에서 의미 있는 인수합병도 추진할 계획이라고 밝혔다.
수요 증가 속에 삼성은 현재 평택 캠퍼스 P4 공장의 효율화 작업을 진행 중이다.
또한 계획 중인 P5 양산 라인에 필요한 주요 설비 설치를 앞당기고 있다.
더불어 용인의 반도체 클러스터 내 신규 제조 시설을 구축하고 있다.
미국에서는 텍사스주 테일러에 새로운 파운드리를 건설 중이며 연말 가동을 시작하는 것을 목표로 한다.
