The main Korean delegation competing at the 2026 Winter Olympics has arrived in Italy, with 38 athletes and officials landing in Milan on Friday evening local time. Seven other athletes and officials who had departed Korea on Friday afternoon traveled to Cortina d'Ampezzo, the site of snow and sliding events.
According to the national Olympic committee, the group arriving in Milan was greeted by the consul general in Milan and representatives from the Korean community in the city.
Speed skater Park Ji-woo and short track athlete Lee June-seo carried the national flag at the airport. Park will serve as a co-flag bearer alongside figure skater Cha Jun-hwan at the opening ceremony, while Lee is the captain of the men's short track team.
In total, Korea will field 71 athletes competing in six sports across northern Italy. The national Olympic committee has set a target of at least three gold medals, one more than the total at the 2022 Beijing Games, and a top-10 finish in the medal standings.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday, while Korea’s first competition will be the mixed doubles curling round robin on Wednesday; the Games run until February 22.
The Milan-Cortina Games are described as the most widespread Olympics, with venues spanning about 22,000 square kilometers. In addition to Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, the Valtellina Cluster hosts alpine skiing, freestyle skiing and snowboarding, while the Val di Fiemme Cluster hosts ski jumping, Nordic combined and cross-country skiing, with all clusters located hundreds of kilometers northeast of Milan.

밀라노에 도착한 이 그룹은 현지 총영사 최태호와 밀라노 한인 커뮤니티 대표들로부터 환영 인사를 받았다.
공항에서 국기를 들고 있던 선수로는 스피드 스케이팅 선수 박지우와 쇼트트랙 선수 이준서가 있었고, 박지우 선수는 개막식에서 차준환 선수와 함께 공동 성화대 역할을 맡을 예정이며, 이준서는 남자 쇼트트랙 대표팀 주장이다.
한국은 총 71명의 선수와 관계 인원이 이탈리아 북부에서 열리는 6개 종목에 걸쳐 경쟁한다.
한국 측은 금메달 최소 3개를 목표로 하며, 2022년 베이징 올림픽의 금메달 수보다 한 개 더 많은 성과로 메달 순위 상위 10위 안에 들겠다고 밝혔다.
개막식은 금요일이지만, 한국의 첫 일정은 수요일의 혼합 복식 컬링 예선전으로 시작된다.
대회는 2월 22일에 종료된다.
밀라노-코르티나 올림픽은 역사상 가장 넓은 규모의 올림픽이 될 것이며, 경기장은 22,000제곱킬로미터에 이르는 지역에 걸쳐 분포한다. 밀라노와 코르티나 델 아펜초 외에 발텔리나 클러스터에서는 남자 알파인 스키·프리스타일 스키·스노보드가, 발 디 피에메 클러스터에서는 스키 점프·노르딕 복합·크로스컨트리 스키가 개최된다. 두 클러스터는 밀라노에서 수백 킬로미터 북동쪽에 위치한다.
