President Lee Jae Myung expressed deep condolences on Monday following the death of prominent movie star Ahn Sung-ki, who significantly contributed to Korean cinema over several decades.
In a message shared on his Facebook account, Lee acknowledged Ahn's enduring legacy in the history of Korean cinema and the arts and culture sector. He highlighted Ahn's aspiration to gain the audience's trust, noting that the late actor will be remembered for authentically portraying the joys and sorrows that resonate across generations.
Lee praised Ahn's choice of humility over grandeur and dignity over competition, extending his respect for the actor's principles.
Known as the "Nation's Actor," Ahn had a prolific career, appearing in approximately 140 films across various genres, including dramas, action movies, and thrillers, over a span of more than six decades.
Ahn passed away early Monday at a hospital in Seoul while receiving treatment in an intensive care unit. He was 74 years old.

안성기는 "국민 배우"라 불리며 60년이 넘는 경력 동안 약 140편의 영화에 출연했으며, 드라마, 액션 영화, 스릴러 등 다양한 장르를 포함했다.
안성기는 월요일 이른 아침 서울의 한 병원에서 중환자실 치료를 받던 중 사망했다. 그는 74세였다.
