A government ministry said it will launch a special guarantee program to provide up to 400 billion won (approximately $272.4 million) in financing support to help the shipbuilding sector improve its export competitiveness.
The program is designed to offer low-interest loans to small and medium-sized suppliers backed by a major shipbuilding group, according to the ministry.
The shipbuilding group and a partner bank will jointly contribute 28 billion won, which will be used by the state-run export credit insurer to provide payment guarantees for up to 400 billion won of loans to the suppliers.
A cooperation agreement signing ceremony for the program was held in Ulsan, in the southeastern region where large shipyards are located.

이 프로그램은 조선업계의 중소 협력사에 대해 저금리 대출을 제공하는 것을 목표로 한다고 산업통상자원부는 설명했다.
이를 달성하기 위해 관련 기관들은 합계 28억 원을 기여하며, 국가가 운영하는 공적 보증기관이 이 대출에 대한 지급보증을 제공해 협력사에 최대 400억 원 규모의 저금리 대출을 지원한다.
울산에서 이 특별 프로그램에 대한 협력 협약식이 열렸고, 조선 분야의 주요 업체를 중심으로 한 협력 체계 구축이 확인됐다.
