During a training camp next month in preparation for the World Baseball Classic (WBC), South Korea will welcome players who have played overseas, according to a national team official.
Go Woo-suk, a pitcher seeking a new contract after a challenging 2025 season split between two minor league affiliates, is among those players eligible to join the camp.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) announced a 29-man training camp roster on December 3, with manager Ryu Ji-hyun's national team scheduled to train in Saipan from January 9 to 21.
All players on the roster participated in the KBO during the 2025 season, with the exception of infielder Song Sung-mun, who recently signed with the San Diego Padres. Song's participation in both the training camp and the WBC, set for March 5-17, remains uncertain as discussions regarding his status are ongoing between him and the Padres.
Go Woo-suk has more flexibility to attend the national team camp following his release from the Detroit Tigers in November.
After signing a two-year deal with the Padres in January 2024, Go spent the season in the minors and did not make it to Major League Baseball (MLB) before being traded to the Miami Marlins. He was released by the Marlins in June and subsequently signed a minor league deal with the Tigers, where he made 14 appearances for their Triple-A team without receiving a call-up to the majors.
Go is currently pursuing another opportunity in the United States instead of returning to his former KBO team, the LG Twins. Despite a career ERA of 5.61 over 76 minor league games in the U.S., the national team views him as a potential asset for the bullpen.
"It's still premature to talk about choosing Go Woo-suk for the WBC, but he is a player that can help the national team," the official stated. "If he wants to, he can come to our camp. We organized this camp to help players prepare for the tournament that starts before the regular season in KBO and MLB."
Three Korean players concluded the 2025 MLB season on big league rosters: Kim Ha-seong of the Atlanta Braves, Lee Jung-hoo of the San Francisco Giants, and Kim Hye-seong of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The first two players are likely to skip the Saipan camp and join the national team for the WBC if approved by their respective clubs. Kim Hye-seong has already requested permission from the Dodgers to participate in both the WBC and the Saipan camp.

관계자에 따르면, 2025 시즌 동안 두 개의 마이너 리그 팀에서 활동한 후 새로운 계약을 찾고 있는 고우석이 그중 한 선수이다.
한국야구위원회(KBO)는 12월 3일 29인 훈련 캠프 명단을 발표했으며, 류지현 감독이 이끄는 대표팀은 1월 9일부터 21일까지 사이판에서 훈련할 예정이다.
명단에 오른 모든 선수는 2025 시즌 KBO에서 활약했으나, 내야수 송성문은 샌디에이고 파드리스와 계약을 체결한 상황이다. 송성문의 캠프 및 WBC 참가 가능성은 여전히 불확실하며, 그는 새 팀과 그의 상태에 대해 논의 중이다. 송은 이번 주 초 파드리스에 합류한 후 사이판 캠프 이전에 구단 측의 결정을 기대한다고 전했다.

고우석은 2024년 1월 파드리스와 2년 계약을 체결했으나, 시즌 초반 마이너 리그에서 시작했고 메이저 리그 베이스볼(MLB)에 호출되지 않은 후 파드리스에 의해 마이애미 말린스로 거래됐다.
말린스는 6월 고우석을 방출했으며, 이후 타이거스가 그와 마이너 리그 계약을 체결했다. 고우석은 오하이오주 톨레도에 있는 타이거스의 트리플 A 팀에서 14경기에 출전했으나 다시 한 번 메이저 리그 호출에 실패했다.
고우석은 원래 KBO 소속팀 LG 트윈스로의 복귀보다는 미국에서 또 다른 기회를 찾고 있다.
고우석은 LG 트윈스에서 활동할 당시 KBO의 대표적인 마무리 투수였으며, 미국 마이너 리그에서 76경기에서 5.61의 평균 자책점을 기록하고 94 2/3 이닝을 소화했다. 고우석의 미미한 성적에도 불구하고, 국가대표팀은 그가 소중한 불펜 자원으로 기여할 수 있다고 믿고 있다.
관계자는 "고우석을 WBC 선수로 선택하는 것은 아직 이르지만, 그는 국가대표팀에 도움을 줄 수 있는 선수"라고 언급했다. "그가 원한다면 우리 캠프에 올 수 있다. 우리는 KBO와 MLB 정규 시즌 이전에 선수들이 대회를 준비할 수 있도록 이 캠프를 조직했다."
2025 MLB 시즌이 끝나갈 무렵, 김하성(애틀랜타 브레이브스), 이종후(샌프란시스코 자이언츠), 김혜성(로스앤젤레스 다저스) 등 세 명의 한국 선수들이 빅리그 로스터에 올랐다.
이 중 전자의 두 선수는 사이판 캠프를 건너뛰고 구단의 승인이 있을 경우 WBC에 합류할 가능성이 높다. 김혜성은 이달 초 이미 다저스에 WBC 참가 허가를 요청했으며, 사이판 캠프에도 참여할 수 있기를 바란다고 밝혔다.
