At the Makuhari Messe convention center just outside Tokyo, nearly 50,000 visitors gathered on Sunday to experience Korean food and beauty products during the 36th edition of KCON, the world’s largest K-pop festival and convention. The three-day event, held over the weekend in Japan, offered attendees a comprehensive Korean cultural experience beyond just K-pop concerts.
One of the main attractions was a booth area where Japanese fans could explore various aspects of Korean culture, particularly through food and beauty. Olive Young, Korea’s leading beauty retailer, attracted long lines as fans sampled skincare and makeup products, notably from its Colorgram brand, which is currently endorsed by the K-pop group ZeroBaseOne. Many attendees were seen carrying reusable bags featuring the Olive Young logo.
Rin, a 21-year-old Japanese fan who attended to see ZeroBaseOne, expressed her enthusiasm for Korean skincare products, stating, “I use their (Korean) skincare products. I like them.” Other prominent Korean brands, including Samyang Foods, Nongshim, and CJ Foodville, also set up booths to engage fans through their offerings.
At the food court, visitors had the opportunity to sample a variety of Korean dishes, further enhancing the cultural immersion provided by the event.
