Ex-presidential official’s leaked phone call rattles conservative bloc

In a recent development, a leaked phone conversation has caused concern within the conservative bloc as it revealed a former presidential official urging a reporter from a far-left YouTube news channel to discredit the current leader of the ruling People Power Party during the party's leadership race. The recording, uploaded by Voice of Seoul, captures the official, Kim Dae-nam, allegedly asking the reporter to "attack" Han Dong-hoon before the party's national convention on July 23. This revelation has fueled speculations of a rift between President Yoon Suk Yeol and Han, dating back to earlier this year when Han was the interim leader of the ruling party. Following the release of the recording, Kim Dae-nam, who is now an auditor at a state-funded institution, has officially distanced himself from the People Power Party, where he had been a long-time conservative member. The presidential office has denied any involvement of President Yoon and the first lady in the alleged attempt to discredit Han, emphasizing that there is no connection with Kim Dae-nam. Meanwhile, Han has expressed his intention to take necessary actions in response to the party's decision to investigate the matter, highlighting the inappropriate nature of seeking to attack him through a far-left YouTube channel with false information.
