Kia makes breakthrough in China sales

Kia is experiencing a positive turnaround in China, with monthly sales surpassing 20,000 units for three consecutive months from June to August. This trend suggests that the company is on track to meet or exceed its target of selling over 200,000 units in China by the end of the year. The recovery is attributed to the introduction of new models tailored to the Chinese market and an expansion of export operations. In August, Kia's joint venture in China, Jiangsu Yueda Kia, reported a 36.2 percent increase in sales compared to the same month last year, reaching the highest monthly sales figure of the year. From January to August, Kia's total sales in China, including exports, rose by 61.3 percent compared to the same period in 2023, positioning Kia as the top-selling brand among joint venture automakers in China. The company expects its total sales in China to exceed 230,000 units by the end of the year, marking a return to the 200,000-unit threshold for the first time since 2020. This success is attributed to the introduction of new market-specific vehicles and an export strategy, which has helped offset fluctuations in domestic demand and strengthen Kia's market position in China. Additionally, the joint venture's financial performance has shown signs of improvement, with a reduction in operating losses and a gradual recovery in profitability.
