The Ministry of Science and ICT has officially approved Hyundai Motor Group's acquisition of a significant stake in KT, one of Korea's main mobile carriers. This decision comes after an extensive review process, with the Ministry determining that the change in KT's largest shareholder is in line with the public interest. Hyundai Motor Group unintentionally became the top shareholder in KT after the National Pension Service reduced its stake, selling around 2.88 million shares to lower its ownership percentage. The approval, in accordance with the Telecommunications Business Act, required government scrutiny due to the change in KT's largest shareholder. The Ministry's review council emphasized that KT's business operations remain unchanged following Hyundai Motor Group's increased stake and clarified that the auto conglomerate has no plans to interfere in KT's management. Furthermore, with Hyundai Motor Group's current ownership level, it is deemed unlikely for the company to assert control over KT's management.
