[Bills in Focus] Streamlining construction, promoting ESG compliance

Proposed legislation has been put forward to address various issues in South Korea. One bill aims to expedite reconstruction and redevelopment projects to meet the growing demand for housing in city centers by simplifying approval processes, providing mediation for construction cost disputes, and easing floor-area ratio restrictions near subway stations. Another proposed amendment seeks to address the challenges posed by the rise of artificial intelligence, requiring content providers to label AI-generated content and allowing service providers to remove unmarked AI-generated content to help users distinguish between real and fake information. Additionally, a pending bill aims to incorporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data into company assessment reports to encourage investment in the domestic capital market. A promulgated bill, overseen by the Fair Trade Commission, requires prime contractors to compensate subcontractors for any losses incurred due to the unauthorized use of their technical data. Furthermore, an administrative announcement by the Financial Services Commission aims to streamline permission procedures for credit information businesses and eliminate investment requirements for financial companies entering corporate credit rating services.
