<p>INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Ronda Rousey stopped Gina Carano with an armbar 17 seconds into their comeback bout on Saturday night, ending a 9 1/2-year MMA absence for Rousey and a 17-year absence for Carano.</p>
<p>Rousey, 29, wasted no time after the bell, immediately tackling Carano before quickly securing her finishing hold as the fight was halted. The bout marked the fighters’ improbable returns to the sport that defined two decades of MMA history.</p>
<p>The event highlighted two of MMA’s most influential figures from the past two decades, with Rousey having previously helped bring women’s UFC competition into the spotlight. Carano’s career had largely transitioned to acting after her own initial departure from competition.</p>
<p>Rousey began contemplating an MMA return last year after starting a family and settling on a possible matchup with Carano, who had pursued acting since her own last fight in the sport while dealing with health challenges in recent years.</p>
