Kang Hoon-sik, the presidential chief of staff, will depart on Tuesday as a presidential envoy to Kazakhstan, Oman and Saudi Arabia to secure additional energy supplies amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
He announced the plan during a press briefing on the Middle East situation at the presidential office, alongside Kim Yong-beom, the presidential chief of staff for policy.
The mission will involve officials from relevant ministries, including the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and representatives from domestic energy companies, with the aim of expanding crude oil and naphtha imports and diversifying supply sources.
Kang emphasized that the economy heavily relies on Middle East oil and naphtha imports, making it urgent to secure alternative supply lines, and said the government will coordinate with companies to ensure shipments reach Korean ports without disruption.

Kang은 “우리 경제는 중동으로부터의 원유와 네프타 수입에 크게 의존하고 있어 대체 공급선을 확보하는 일이 시급하다”고 말했다. 또한 정부가 기업들과 긴밀히 협력해 선적이 한국 항구에 차질 없이 도착하도록 보장할 것이라고 덧붙였다.
