Korean Air has signed a memorandum of understanding with French aerospace company Exotrail to jointly develop an orbit transfer vehicle (OTV). The collaboration aims to advance value-added space services, including low Earth orbit satellite transportation, payload hosting, multi-orbit satellite deployment, and satellite life extension and refueling.
The two companies will form a joint working group to refine launch plans and optimize cost structures for orbital transportation services. Korean Air says the partnership aims to secure a leading technological position in future defense and New Space markets by combining Exotrail's space heritage with Korean Air's aerospace manufacturing capabilities.
The agreement is expected to help Korean Air capture demand from both defense-related small satellite constellations and the commercial satellite market, while Exotrail seeks to strengthen its presence in Asia through the collaboration. An OTV is designed to transfer small satellites from a primary launch vehicle to their designated orbits with high precision, a capability increasingly in demand as multiple small satellites are deployed in a single launch.

OTV는 주 발사체에서 지정 궤도로 소형 위성을 고정밀로 수송하도록 설계되었으며, 한 차례의 발사에서 다수의 소형 위성을 배치해야 하는 수요가 증가함에 따라 중요성이 커졌다.
