Display technology executive Lee Chang-hee
A Korean executive, serving as chief technology officer at a leading display technology company, has been elected chair of IEC TC 110, the international standards committee overseeing next-generation display technologies including OLED and flexible displays.
IEC TC 110 sets international standards for these technologies, as competition among major economies intensifies in this field.
Lee Chang-hee's selection marks the first time Korea has held the top leadership role of the committee, even though the country previously led seven of its nine working groups. China had chaired the panel for nine years prior to the election, strengthening its influence on standard-setting and market development.
The national standards body said it nominated the candidate last year and coordinated with industry groups to gain support from member countries. Lee will begin a three-year term in October, with a possible extension of up to six years, during which he will guide the direction of global standards and seek consensus among member nations.
The president of the national standards body said the appointment will strengthen Korea’s position in the global race for next-generation display standards and that continued support would be provided to companies in international standardization efforts.

국가 기술 표준 기구는 월요일 발표에서 한 임원이 이 기구의 의장으로 선출됐다고 밝혔다.
해당 의장은 OLED와 플렉서블 디스플레이를 포함한 차세대 디스플레이 기술의 국제 표준을 감독하는 역할을 맡는다.
한국은 이번이 처음으로 이 위원회의 최고 리더십을 차지했으며, 이전에는 9개 작업 그룹 중 7개를 이끈 경력이 있다.
중국은 지난 9년간 의장을 맡아 표준 제정과 시장 개발에 영향력을 확대해 왔다.
국가 기술 표준 기구는 작년에 해당 임원을 지명했고 업계 단체들과의 협력 캠페인을 통해 회원국의 지지를 확보했다고 밝혔다.
선출된 이는 디스플레이 기술 개발과 표준화 분야에서 20년이 넘는 경력을 보유한 것으로 전해졌다.
임기는 10월에 시작되며 3년의 임기로 시작해 최대 6년까지 재직할 수 있다.
기관의 수장은 이번 인선이 차세대 디스플레이 표준 개발에서 한국의 입지를 강화할 것이라고 말했다.
“이번 의장직은 차세대 디스플레이 표준 개발에서 한국의 선도적 지위를 굳건히 하는 데 기여할 것”이라며 국제 표준화 노력을 계속 지원하겠다고 덧붙였다.
