Samsung Display has developed QuantumBlack, a display film for QLED monitors designed to reduce light reflection and enhance durability. The company announced that it has completed trademark registration for QuantumBlack as a new film technology brand and will apply it to all new QLED monitor products launching this year.
QuantumBlack is a low-reflection film that lowers ambient light reflection by 20 percent compared to the previous film and increases panel hardness from 2H to 3H, indicating greater resistance to scratches and wear.
QLED displays are self-emissive and can produce true black by turning off individual pixels, but ambient light can still reflect off screens in real-world environments. Applying QuantumBlack is expected to significantly reduce such reflections, improving visibility in gaming and other content, with enhanced depth and dimensionality, particularly in first-person shooter games where enemy silhouettes and item locations become clearer.
In addition to visibility improvements, QuantumBlack is anticipated to bolster panel durability, reducing vulnerability to scratches during movement or cleaning due to its higher hardness rating.
The technology will be applied to new monitors released to global customers this year, including models under brands such as ASUS’ Black Shield, Gigabyte, and Obsidian Shield.
