President Lee Jae Myung on Monday hailed the prosecution for indicting 52 executives on charges of price fixing involving daily necessities, such as flour, sugar and electricity.
He shared a link to a news report on the social platform X detailing the indictment of milling companies, sugar producers and bidders tied to the state-run electricity provider in contracts worth about 10 trillion won ($6.8 billion) between September and January.
Lee wrote that prosecutors achieved significant results and said he instructed the prosecution to share the investigation results at the upcoming Cabinet meeting.
The remarks marked a rare public compliment, as he has previously criticized the prosecution over past investigations involving him and the handling of other cases.
Lee also said he instructed the government to consider measures to strengthen regulations on price fixing, including raising legal penalties, confiscating illicit profits and restoring prices that were unfairly increased.
Prosecutors launched the price-fixing investigation after Lee ordered the government to take a more active response to rising prices of everyday goods during a Cabinet meeting in September last year.

그는 가격 담합 규제를 강화하기 위한 조치로 형벌을 강화하고 불법 이익을 몰수하며 불공정하게 인상된 가격을 시정하는 등의 대책을 정부가 검토하도록 지시했다고 말했다.
수사는 지난해 9월 국무회의에서 일상용품 가격 상승에 더 적극적으로 대응하라는 지시가 내려진 직후 시작됐다.
