South Korea's women's national team is in talks with the governing body to avert a boycott of next month's Women's Asian Cup, with officials expecting the squad to train for the tournament as scheduled.
The team previously complained of poor and discriminatory conditions compared with the men's program, including long journeys by bus and economy-class flights and accommodation deemed far from training grounds. A federation official said discussions with the players are ongoing and that the team is slated to attend a pre-tournament training camp in mid-February.
Players also said they were required to pay for their own airport transfers and training kits, and warned they would suspend training for the 2026 event and refuse to play matches if there was no response by October 17, citing clear differences from the men's side.
An internal document showed the women's side was allocated $1.28 million in 2025, less than 10% of the budget for the men's program.
The 12-team Women's Asian Cup will be held in Australia from March 1 to 21, with South Korea drawn in a first-round group that includes the host nation, Iran and the Philippines.
Midfielder Ji So-yun, who spent eight years with an English club, said the players feel they are not being treated in a manner befitting national team members and that action may be necessary to bring about change.

협회 관계자는 "문제를 해결하기 위한 대화를 계속하고 있으며 훈련 일정대로 나아갈 계획이다"라고 말했다. 또한 대회 전 선수들을 위한 훈련 캠프를 2월 중순에 소집할 예정이다.
선수들은 자신들이 공항 이동 수단과 훈련 키트를 직접 부담해야 한다고 불만을 제기했다.
선수단의 성명은 다가오는 2026년 AFC 여자 아시안컵과 관련된 모든 훈련에 참여를 중단하고, KFA가 10월 17일까지 응답하지 않으면 경기에 출전하지 않겠다고 밝혔다.
또한 남자 대표팀이 누리는 조건과 비교해 "명백하고 부인할 수 없는 차이"가 있다고 덧붙였다.
협회 내부 문서에 따르면 여자 팀의 2025년 예산은 128만 달러였으며, 이는 남자 팀의 총 예산의 10% 미만에 불과했다.
12개 팀이 참가하는 여자 아시안컵은 3월 1일부터 21일까지 호주에서 개최된다.
한국은 주최국인 호주와 이란, 필리핀과 함께 1라운드 조에 배정됐다.
잉글랜드의 첼시에서 8년간 활약한 미드필더 지소연은 "선수들이 국가대표로서의 대우를 받지 못하는 듯하다"고 느낀다고 말했고, "무거운 마음으로 변화를 가져오기 위한 조치가 필요하다고 생각한다"라고 덧붙였다.
