Pavane is described as a youthful melodrama about a woman who hides from the world because of her appearance, and two men who find hope through their encounters with her.
The director said he has dreamed of making a melodrama since his teenage years, and he aims to send a message that people will eventually meet someone and fall in love in some way.
The film is based on the 2009 Korean novel Pavane for a Dead Princess by Park Min-gyu, and centers on three people who have closed their hearts to the world but become a light for one another.
Ko A-sung plays Mi-jeong, Byeon Yo-han portrays Yo-han, and Moon Sang-min plays Gyeong-rok, a young man who gives up his dream of becoming a dancer and must face life’s harsh realities.
The cast expressed deep trust in the director, who previously found success with other works. Ko A-sung, who collaborates with the director for the second time after a prior project, joined the project citing the director’s unique empathy and understanding of actors.
The director praised Ko’s performance, saying she was the perfect choice to lead the film and that she captured the transition from darkness to light while reflecting the story’s evolving sense of beauty.
Moon Sang-min marked his silver screen debut for the project, explaining that he prepared by meeting with the director every morning for script readings and spent extensive time finding the right facial expressions to convey Gyeong-rok’s energy through a vacant gaze.
Byeon Yo-han described Pavane as a movie that everyone will truly love, noting that the emotion of love cannot be explained by science but exists everywhere like oxygen.
The film will be released on the streaming service on February 20.

주연으로는 미정 역의 고아성, 요한 역의 변요한, 경록 역의 문상민이 각각 연기한다.
배우들은 감독에 대한 깊은 신뢰를 전하며, 감독이 이미 “삼진그룹 영어토익”과 “탈출” 등으로 성공을 거둔 바 있다고 밝혔다. 고아성은 감독의 독특한 공감 능력 덕분에 이 작품에 합류하게 되었다고 말했다.
감독은 고아성이 어두운 상황에서도 빛나는 캐릭터의 매력을 잘 담아냈다고 칭찬했고, 그녀의 표정이 이야기의 의미를 더욱 잘 반영했다고 덧붙였다.
문상민은 은막 데뷔를 준비하며 매일 아침 6시에서 7시 사이 감독과 만나 대본을 읽고, 경록의 표정과 분위기를 찾아가는 데 많은 시간을 보냈다고 밝혔다.
변요한은 Pavane이 모두가 사랑을 진정으로 느낄 수 있는 이야기가 될 것이라고 믿으며, 사랑의 감정은 과학으로 설명될 수 없다고 말했다.
이 작품은 해당 온라인 스트리밍 서비스에서 2월 20일 공개될 예정이다.
