A public reprimand was issued by the chairman of a major business lobby group to its executives and staff over a controversial press release on inheritance tax, which the country's president criticized as unreliable and publicly rebuked.
In a written message to employees, the chairman expressed “deep regret” and said that the chamber would suspend all events and place all executives under a reappointment review.
Sources said that all 10 executives are expected to tender their resignations in response to the incident.
The release, dated Feb. 3, urged reforms to the inheritance tax system, and cited a British investment migration consultancy. The president condemned reports citing the release as “fake news” intended to attack government policy.
The lobby group apologized publicly and pledged to overhaul its research team, as senior government officials joined in the criticism, with the Ministry launching an audit of the chamber's activities.
In the message, the chairman noted that internal and external reviews found problems with the cited data and said it was regrettable that fundamental doubts had been raised about the institution’s credibility as a body that analyzes economic trends and proposes policy solutions.
He added that measures such as tougher fact-checking would not be sufficient for a full overhaul, calling on employees to reflect and work to regain public trust.
Nevertheless, he reaffirmed the chamber's commitment to participate responsibly in and actively support national-level events and projects.

해당 로비 단체의 2월 3일 발표는 상속세 제도 개혁을 촉구했고, 보도자료에서 외국의 투자 이주 컨설팅 업체를 인용했다고 전했다.
이재명 대통령은 이 보도자료를 인용한 보도들을 '가짜 뉴스'로 규정하며 정부 정책을 공격하기 위한 의도라고 비판했다.
해당 로비 단체는 곧 공개적으로 사과하고 연구 팀을 전면 개편하겠다고 약속했으나, 고위 정부 관계자들도 여기에 함께 비판했고, 산업통상자원부가 단체에 대한 감사를 시작했다.
최 회장은 내부 및 external 검토를 통해 인용된 데이터에 문제가 발견되었다고 지적했다.
“경제 동향을 분석하고 정책 해결책을 제시해야 하는 기관으로서의 신뢰성에 근본적인 의혹이 제기된 점이 유감이다.”라고 썼다.
또한 그는 '사실 확인 강화와 같은 조치만으로는 전면 개편에 충분하지 않다'고 말하며 직원들에게 스스로를 되돌아보고 대중의 신뢰를 회복하기 위한 노력을 촉구했다.
다만 해당 로비 단체는 국가 차원의 행사와 프로젝트에 책임 있게 참여하고 적극적으로 지원하겠다고 재확인했다.
