The son of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong has been assigned to the Navy's mine and amphibious unit as an interpreter officer, according to an announcement from the Navy on Sunday.
Ensign Lee Jee-ho will serve at the information and strategy staff officer's office within Mine/Amphibious Flotilla Five. His role will involve providing interpretation between commanders during joint military drills with foreign forces, as stated by naval officials.
Lee was officially commissioned along with 89 new Navy and Marine Corps officers during a ceremony held at the Naval Academy in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, in November.
Born in the United States in 2000, Lee held dual citizenship in both Korea and the U.S. However, he renounced his U.S. citizenship to fulfill his military duty as a Korean citizen.
삼성전자 이재용 회장의 아들 이지호가 해군의 수륙 기동 부대에 통역 장교로 배치되었다고 해군이 11월 28일 발표했다.
서희준 해군참모총장은 이지호 소위가 수륙 기동 제5전대의 정보 및 전략 참모부에서 통역 장교로서 근무할 것이라고 밝혔다.
그의 주요 임무는 외국 군대와의 공동 군사 훈련 중 지휘관 간의 통역을 제공하는 것이다.
이지호는 11월 경남 창원 해군사관학교에서 열린 공식 임관식에서 해군 및 해병대 새로운 장교 89명 중 한 명으로 임관하였다.
그는 2000년 미국에서 태어나 한국과 미국의 이중국적을 보유했으나, 한국 국민으로서 군 복무를 이행하기 위해 미국 국적을 포기했다.
