The U.S. military stationed in Korea has conducted a "steel rain" live-fire drill utilizing new multiple rocket launchers, as reported by the Eighth Army on Tuesday.
The drill, which featured the new multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) known as M270A2, took place on December 11 at Camp Casey in Dongducheon, Gyeonggi Province, according to a statement from the U.S. military.
Titled "'Steel Rain' on the Peninsula: M270A2 MLRS Conducts Inaugural Live Fire in Korea," the statement emphasized the U.S. military's readiness and the unit's capability to swiftly execute operations when necessary.
U.S. Army Lt. Col. Daniel Han, commander of the artillery battalion, remarked that being the first battalion to operate the new launcher systems in Korea sends a strong message regarding the U.S. Army's ongoing modernization and transformation efforts, incorporating more advanced technological capabilities.
Han further noted that this development signals to allies, including the Republic of Korea Army, that as they modernize their long-range precision platforms, the U.S. military is also undergoing similar transformations, reinforcing the message of unity and collaboration.
